Marks - Nothing specific Nationality - American Voice – Helena has a little lilt at the end of all of her sentences, and it tends to get higher the more stressed or upset she is. When in a stable emotional state—which, if we’re being honest, isn’t all too often. Her kids don’t make it easy for her—she has a very calm, even voice. Wardrobe – Always very professional. She uses her dress as a means to show her status in the workplace; she dresses well enough to demand respect, but she’s able to use her sexuality in a way that can manipulate and get what she wants. Granted, Helena understands that she’s no longer thirty, and she doesn’t go around flashing skin, but she’s the master of just enough. PSYCHOLOGICAL: Intelligence - Most of Helena’s intelligence comes from her organization and ability to multitask. She’s quick, and she knows a lot. Granted, she may not be book smart, but she gains a lot of information as she works. Helena is extremely good at her job because of her ability to juggle multiple tasks. There is never a job she won’t do; she works hard and expects others to do the same. Temperament – Helena is a creature of compassion. She feels for others, but she’s learned that her empathy can get her hurt as well. Overall, Helena tries to keep a very professional, cool demeanor. While she’s very kind, she feels the need to establish her position in her workplace before showing the more gentle, emphatic side of herself. When it comes to her family, she’s extremely affectionate, and she’s always willing to drop everything to give them her attention. When she got a job, it was frustrating for her because she struggled to give her kids the attention she felt they deserved. Fears – Originally her biggest fear was losing her husband but now that that’s happened, Helena is just terrified for her children. She’s afraid of anything bad happening to them, whether that be death or sickness or even unhappiness. Helena is also afraid of their reaction if they ever discover who their real father is. Beliefs – Helena grew up Southern Baptist, but she doesn’t conform to any label of Christianity now. She likes believing in something, and she sometimes prays, but she’s never been one to attend church very often. Right after Joseph died she started going again, but her depression consumed her, and she lost interest in just about everything for a few months. PERSONAL: Birthplace - Raleigh, North Carolina Parents + Siblings - Helena is third eldest of four. Her two older siblings are Kevin and Jackie, and Josephine is her younger sister. Her mother is still alive; she lives close to Kevin and Jackie in North Carolina. Josephine moved to Las Vegas after a particularly nasty divorce, drawn in by the idea of living near her sister and niece and nephew. Her father committed suicide when Helena was fourteen after suffering for years from PTSD and alcoholism. Children – James and Margot Rodgers are the lights of Helena’s life. No one expected twins, but Helena was thrilled nonetheless. They’re the only things that kept Helena out of succumbing to her depression once her husband died, and they’ve been her driving force ever since. Despite her open relationship with them, they don’t know that their real father is Colt Jackson, not Helena’s late husband, Joseph Rodgers. She is extremely affectionate with her children, but she is careful to keep a close eye on them; Helena tries not to be too controlling, but she fears losing them, so she can become extremely controlling if she finds them getting into trouble. Late Husband, Joseph Rodgers – Joseph and Helena met a few months after Helena graduated from college, when she tried to find a career in Las Vegas. She wanted to break into the journalism scene, but she ended up working as a showgirl at a casino. Joe met her after a particularly awful interview, and he took her out on a few dates, and they were dating within the month. It didn’t take long for either of them to fall in love and, soon enough, they were engaged. Helena struggled with the idea of laying down all her dreams to become a housewife, but she accepted that because that was what Joseph expected, and she loved him. A week before the wedding, Helena had an affair with Colt, became pregnant, but passed them off as Joseph’s children. He went to war in 1951 but never came back, and Helena spiraled into a dark depression. Colt Jackson – Colt and Helena met when she was still a showgirl, and they quickly became best friends. They always had a draw to each other, but it was never acted on because Helena was engaged and had no intention of ruining her impending marriage. That—obviously—didn’t completely work out. After losing Joseph, Colt offered Helena a job at the casino as well as some resources in order to care for her twins. She begrudgingly accepted but warns him not grow too close to the children; she doesn’t want them to know that their childhood was a lie. Helena is pretty much desperately in love with Colt, but she’s too afraid to act on it because of what it would mean for her children. Profession – Quite frankly, Helena is vital to the workings of the casino. She keeps everyone’s schedules in order, and she makes sure everyone is working and working correctly. She’s very compassionate towards her coworkers, especially the other women in the field, but she expects a lot from everyone. Helena understands the ins-and-outs of the casino because she worked there even before she had kids, so she understands when people are bullshitting her and she has zero tolerance for liars and slackers. Despite her high position in the casino, she has dreams of going into politics and actually changing things. Even though it would cause quite the scandal due to being female, she is very interested in becoming more involved with the city council. Talents – Helena went to school for journalism at Salem College in North Carolina, so she’s quite talented in writing. She has a knack for writing fiction, though she doesn’t utilize it as much as she could—being a mother and having a job makes doing more leisurely things difficult. Helena has phenomenal organization skills, and it’s come in handy for her job at the casino. Abduction – It’s hard not to be absolutely terrified after being abducted. Helena, however, has not told anyone what happened to her. Helena thinks it’s her job to worry about others, not for others to worry about her, so she’s kept her mouth shut on the issue. Of course she went to the police on the issue, but she hasn’t mentioned it to any of her family or friends and doesn’t plan to. Since the abduction, she’s been paranoid and jumpy, and she’s hyperaware of everyone around her. |
