LAS VEGAS CENSUS PLEASE FILL OUT THIS FORM AND RETURN BY MAIL. VERONICA "VICKI" REYES BASIC INFORMATION
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION HAIR COLOR AND STYLE: Vicki’s hair is long and naturally dirty blond. Usually she leaves it out as she’s too lazy to do too much with it. If she does put it up, it’s usually messily pinned. EYE COLOR: A bright, translucent blue. BODY BUILD: Vicki’s quite small for her age. She’s short and thin and, as she is so often reminded, quite boyish in her frame. She has a horrid posture, mainly from all the time spent on motorbikes, and she tends to slouch and almost curl in on herself. GET UP: Typical to the greasers she hangs out with, Vicki wears a lot of leather and denim. She is mainly seen in her favorite leather jacket, jeans and a t-shirt. A huge tomboy, she doesn’t even own a dress or a skirt and she figures the guys would just about laugh her out of town if she ever wore one. As her friends like to remind her, most people would assume her to be a boy if it wasn’t for her long hair and those lips of hers. PERSONALITY DISPOSITION: Vicki is, above all else – a troubled girl. Overly aggressive in just about every aspect of her life, she gets herself into trouble on an hourly basis. When she was younger, her brothers used to tell her she had Napoleon syndrome. Once she loses her temper, which happens all too often, she won’t hesitate to shout and swear or kick and bite. Once Vicki gets mad, she is unbearable to be around – especially if you’re on the receiving end of her anger. She’s sarcastic, defensive and holds no respect for anyone outside of her small circle of friends. She has no respect for authority or elders or those in a higher social standing than her – in fact, she will often go out of her way to push the buttons of those she should be catering to. Why? Because she relishes in the feeling of control it gives her. She loves feeling the freedom to do as she wants – regardless of the consequences. When it comes to meeting new people, Vicki is usually not very approachable. She likes being prickly and making it seem as if she is untouchable in every way. What happens when you get past her tough exterior though? Well, not a lot. For those she cares about, which are very few, she still treats them as if she doesn’t give a shit about them. But if they ever really needed her? She’d be there in a heartbeat and show the small amount of kindness she has. Vicki is also incredibly competitive and a real daredevil. She’s not afraid of anything and it makes her extremely reckless in her behavior. She constantly feels the need to show others her strength and worth – otherwise, how would they know? In this same sense, she’s quite impulsive and extremely impatient – making her seem childish at times. As the years have passed with no contact with her family, and the only boy she ever really loved leaving her, her anger and aggression has only gotten progressively worse – and it shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. There is the distinct feeling, when interacting with Vicki, that she is a time bomb just waiting to explode. And when she does, she plans on taking as many people down with her as she can. Tomas and Anwen were high school sweethearts, and for many years, Anwen supported her husband and the cause fiercely. But as soon as their first son, Donald, was born – things began to change. Now Anwen’s radicalism was tested by the thought of bringing her son up in such a dangerous environment. It was tough, bringing Donald up in the violent and unstable home they had made for themselves – but they had a lot of help. The war brought the families together, kept them close, and they all worked together to support one another. Anwen’s son was everyone’s son. Just as she was everyone’s mother. Just two years later, Anwen gave birth to twins. It was with the birth of her sons that Anwen found a peace that the cause, that even her husband, had never been able to offer her. They gave her a sense of purpose, and brought out a caring side to her that she never thought she had. It was then that she realized that she was born to be a mother – and she loved her boys fiercely, like nothing else. Tomas was a loving father – when he was around. But the cause always came first. It took him away from home more and more, and so the boys grew up in a house full of women. Even with Tomas’ long absences – Anwen gave birth to another boy in 1941. Keiron was born just days before the dreaded Belfast Blitz. More than half of the houses in Belfast were destroyed in the attack and the Reyes lost a lot of close friends. Anwen would never forget the feeling of being huddled down in the basement with her boys, her newborn clutched tightly to her breast as she prayed and prayed for it all to just end. Anwen changed that night. The war was on her doorstep – and instead of wanting revenge, wanting to fight even harder with the cause, she felt a desperate need to get away – to get her children away. The group worked together to rebuild their lost homes and broken lives and Anwen kept her fears and insecurities to herself. The last of Anwen’s children was born two years later - Vicki. Anwen adored her boys – but after four of them, she was ecstatic to finally have a little girl. Vicki was spoiled rotten as a child. Everything she wanted, she was given – by Anwen, by her father, her brothers and their friends. Although a little dysfunctional, as would be expected from a family heavily involved in the cause, Vicki’s childhood was great. She spent all her time with her brothers and her mother and things were going well. But behind closed doors – Anwen wept for the constant fear she lived in for her children. It wasn’t until Vicki was seven that things came to the surface. Tomas wanted Donald, Liam and Shane to become active members of the cause. He wanted to arm them and send them out during the Border Campaign – and Anwen lost it. She vented all the rage and fears that she had held inside all these years. Vicki still remembers that fight. Donald was trying to calm his father down, but also wishing to claim his own independence from his mother and take his rightful place as the first born son – beside his father. Liam and Shane were trying to help Donald, but they only seemed to fuel the fire as they became enraged at Tomas putting hands on her in his rage. Keiron held Vicki in the doorway, trying to shield her from it all. It was that very night that Anwen decided to leave. She had a cousin in London she would stay with. While Tomas raged in the kitchen, and Donald, Liam and Shane tried to stop him from coming after their mother again – Anwen reached out to her two youngest. She hurried them upstairs to pack their bags – they were going with her to London. Keiron was a shy child, and was very obedient to their mother. So he packed his bags, and packed Vicki’s for her, and Anwen rushed them towards the stairs. What happened next is something disputed fiercely amongst the siblings. Tomas stormed out of the kitchen and saw Vicki and Keiron with their bags – and he lost it completely. Horrified at the thought of losing his two children, he flew up the stairs and grabbed Anwen by the shoulders. The two parents got into a hysterical screaming match that involved shoving on both sides; while Donald, Liam and Shane rushed towards the stairs to stop the fighting. During the scuffle – Anwen ended up standing on the edge of the stairs and fell. From the top of the stairs, Vicki and Keiron saw their father push her. But from the bottom, Donald, Liam and Shane believed they saw fear in their father’s eyes as he tried to reach out and grab Anwen to stop her from falling. Whatever the truth – she did fall. The boys could do nothing but watch as their mother tumbled down the flight of stairs. It all happened so quickly. And just like that, they lost their mother. Everything happened very quickly after that. Their father took control instantly and threw the kids into the car and drove them over to a friend’s place. For the next week, the kids were sent from door to door amongst Tomas’ friends while he grieved and organized a burial for their mother. Donald became the stand-in father – and any talk of their father ‘pushing’ their mother down the stairs was silenced with a firm look from him. It was decided amongst the siblings, by Donald of course, that they loved their father and would support him wholeheartedly. They grieved together, but Keiron and Vicki had to keep their own private grief and fear between the two of them. They saw very little of their father after the death of Anwen – and it effected Vicki deeply. It was as if, overnight, she had been orphaned and she had to hide a lot of her feelings from her other brothers. It felt like she was living a lie, and this is where a lot of her behavioral issues began. Over the next seven years, the boys were thrown headfirst into the IRA. Liam, Shane and Donald seemed to take well to their roles – but Keiron seemed to struggle every step of the way. Vicki was still quite young, and she was left with the other children of the cause to be taken care of by the women, focus on schooling etc. While her relationship with Keiron remained strong, she began to clash with Donald over just about everything. With their father always off on some secret mission – she took out her paternal baggage out on the closest thing she had to that. Donald took a lot of it on the chin, understanding her anger and her rebellion – but he did lose his patience with her on more than one occasion. The Border Campaign would turn out to be the death of the IRA as the boys knew it – and it would forever alter the lives of the Reyes children. It was during the Brookeborough Raid that Keiron Reyes was killed. A part of Vicki died with him that night – and she knew she would never be the same again. She was so mad. She bit the doctor that couldn’t save his life, spat on the ambulance officers that didn’t get there in time, and kicked and hit the brothers that had failed to protect Keiron like they promised they would. Subsequently, a lot of heat came down on the Reyes children – and Donald knew it was time for them to get out of Belfast. Anwen had a sister that lived in Vegas who wrote to them often, and she offered to have them live with her. So Donald organized for them all to leave their homeland the day after Keiron’s funeral. Vicki was just fourteen when she arrived on her aunt’s doorstep. She found no comfort in the warmth of her arms, ones that were so similar to her mother’s – all she wanted was Keiron. It took a few months for them all to settle in with Trinity, their mother’s younger sister – but for a few months they were a semblance of a family. Donald, however, was restless. You can take the boy out of Belfast, but you can’t take the Belfast out of the boy, and so it didn’t take him long to find a form of trouble that worked for him. Donald, and accordingly, Liam and Shane, became greasers. Only this time, Vicki was old enough to be included in her brothers’ shenanigans. Donald even endorsed it. If he was honest with himself, he was just glad that Vicki wasn’t hating him anymore. Maybe this was what they should have been doing all along – staying in trouble, but as a family. However, Donald’s logic failed him yet again. The gang they had become involved with had to move out of state. They were leaving on their motorcycles for greener pastures – and Donald knew he had to go with them. But Vicki was still in school. She had Trinity to look after her. They couldn’t take her on the road with them – it was absurd. So, in a teary goodbye, Donald, Liam and Shane left their baby sister with Trinity…with a promise to return once their campaign was through. At first, Vicki thought it would be a few weeks. But a few weeks turned into a few months…that has now turned into over a year. She struggled to fit in at school. The other kids made fun of her for her accent. And Trinity is known around town for being very strict. A traditional Catholic - she believes anything new is sin. Short skirts are sin. Loud music is sin. Even fast cars come from the devil himself. She is desperately trying to reign Vicki in - especially since she met and fell in love with Chip Hartley. He was the cutest boy in school. A baseball star. He shouldn't have had anything to do with a freak like Vicki. But when they were put in the same maths class, something he was terrible at, Vicki found her way into his heart by tutoring him. They dated for a year and Vicki was head over heels for him. Maybe Chip really loved her too, or maybe he just liked having a girl around to do all his homework for him and neck with. Trinity was furious. She forbid Vicki from seeing him - but Vicki did anyway. She was perpetually grounded, but she found her way around it. She got very good at lying and sneaking around. But after a year - he just up and left. His father was taking him back to Mississippi. And that was it. Vicki was heartbroken - still is. But she buries that in anger. She is paranoid that he left because he thought she was weak, because she wasn't good enough. She'd always idolized Bea and the other greasers - but never made the steps to be one of them. She was too scared of rejection. Now that Chip's gone, what has she got left to lose? She wants to prove to the whole world that she's tough - that she don't need anybody. Sure, she's doing just fine without her brothers, without Chip. She's Vicki fucking Reyes and she can take care of herself. THE INCIDENT WHAT HAPPENED?: The incident happened not long after Chip left. She woke up in the desert with no memory of how she got there. It frightened her to death. She has no idea how or why it happened - but sometimes she still wakes up and feels that fear she felt of waking up in the desert alone. OOC INFORMATION
