Baby, I'm not a bad girl - I just got a man who makes me do bad, bad things It was irresponsible. But Sophie needed an escape. Harvey had been so unreasonable lately. He and Roxie were in the throws of a life she wasn't a part of. It was okay for them to use drugs - but she wasn't allowed to. They were allowed to go out and wreak havoc on Las Vegas - Sophie wasn't even allowed out of the house. And when Harvey had found out she'd left the house without his permission - he'd lost it. He was high when he found out - and coke made him so aggressive. He'd grabbed her by the throat and slammed her against the wall. Harvey had never gotten physical with her before - but it had frightened the life out of her. What followed was something Sophie hopes she will someday stop having nightmares about. She was just trying to get him off, had shoved hard against his chest to get him to let go - and he'd socked her right in the cheek. She had the black eye to prove it - and hadn't left her room since. She cried for hours. Harvey came in the next morning and just held her. But it couldn't take back what he'd done. So he came back to her that afternoon with a new dress. But she wasn't Roxie. He couldn't buy her forgiveness or her love. Something between them had changed permanently. And instead of talking about it like adults - they avoided each other. Sophie told him everything was fine and that it didn't even hurt that much. But it did. And when Roxie and Harvey took another trip - Sophie ran away. Not permanently, no, she was too scared for that. But for one night she would be free from her brother and her ivory tower of isolation and loneliness. She decided to go to Aloha Casino - it made her feel like she was on holiday on some tropical island. Before she left the house she got herself high. Why? Well because she could. And it made her forget about the black eye she was hiding behind her big pair of sunglasses. It was late into the night and she had made friends with some men at the bar. All criminals. And they were having a ball. Until Sophie realized she was a fish among sharks. The alcohol was making them bold - too bold. And she was only getting drunker and she believed it was time to go before things got any worse or she got herself into trouble. Sophie was a magnet for trouble. These men had been so kind and funny just hours ago - and now they were becoming predators. So, telling the men she was going to the bathroom, she slid away from them and headed through the constructed oasis. But she had more to worry about than just the men she had been spending the evening with. She'd seen the two men before. They were out on the strip and seemed to be staring at her. It was part of the reason she'd stayed so close to the criminals in Aloha - safety in numbers. But it hadn't deterred the men - the ones in suits. Sophie was scared of men in suits. They were often powerful - more powerful than her. That meant they would have power over her - and that frightened her. As she moved through the crowds, she looked behind her fearfully - spotting the two men following her still. Filled with fear, she picked up her pace and ran around the corner in an effort to escape the men - still looking behind her. Because she wasn't looking where she was going, she ran straight into somebody. The glasses were knocked from her face from the impact - revealing her freshly blackened eye and she gasped in surprise at the sudden impact. Trembling with fear, she looked up into the face of an older man. He was handsome in his own way - and there was something warm and curious in his eyes. He'd reached out to steady her and she gripped onto his forearms fearfully. Her eyes were already welling with tears, and she looked up at him pleadingly. She had no idea who this man was - but what choice did she have? "...Please, sir...I...There are men following me and ... and..." she looked behind her to see the men had stopped in their tracks and were now staring at the man she had run into. "If I could ... Just a moment of your time and I'll be out of your hair, please...please..." she begged, looking up at him with her wide, terrified eyes. "...I'll be in your debt...I'll do anything, just...please...If you could pretend to...to be a friend or...or someone who would notice if they were to ... to take me or ... or kill me or whatever it is they're planning..." she stammered, all the color draining from her face as her knees threatened to buckle at any moment. In that moment she was nothing like a wolf - she was, at best, a lamb.

we are the keepers of their destiny Is it any wonder why princes and kings are clowns that caper in their sawdust rings? He was very adamant these days. Those mobsters at the Americano Club were producing poor results in his favor. Adam needed another way into one of the bigger gangster of Vegas these days. Not only were his underground plans on a rocky path, but the increasing number of disappearances in the city had him and his officers constantly on call. He'd seemed to contract a small case of insomnia recently and it only clouded his thinking. He still stayed up all night in his office down at the station or his office at home. Zelda worried about him too much. Every day he grew more afraid that she become suspicious enough of her husband to actually want to find loose ends of his. But he left no loose ends. So, he focused on other things for now until he was sure she would become intuitive.
Chief Kaiser and Mayor McCall had been spending a decent amount of time together as of late- which worked out so perfect it was almost... unbelievable. How many more people could he get to kiss the toes of his shoes? Surly, plenty. Scott had slipped his thoughts over a girl he had been seeing. He wanted to take photo with her, but she had refused his offer and wouldn't explain why. Sophie Renard-Wolfe. And instantly the Wolfe Pack came to mind. Yes, it was, yet again, almost too perfect. He carefully spoke with the Mayor on the matter of this women and he knew she was connected. To Harvey Wolfe, perhaps?
The Wolfe Pack was a drug-related gang within the city. He could think of a thousand different ways their relationship would be beneficial. So, he took immediate action and worked to find out as much information on the girl as was possible. First, he ensured he did not have her on file. She was associated with these people, it was certainly a possibility. She didn't, so his next search for Sophie would have to be taken else where. Adam had his Captain and right hand man, Ethan, conduct a more thorough search. The man was practically a man hunter and before the end of the night, Chief Kaiser had found out where Miss Sophie Wolfe was staying- with Harvey Wolfe.
xx
A light breeze brushed his features as the desert finally grew dark with only Vegas to light it up. It must have looked divine from afar. The Mojave always grew cold at night, more so in the winter months, and then shot back to blistering temperatures come sunrise. Tonight, it wasn't nippy but it wasn't warm. Adam stood a few blocks from The Strip, patiently waiting with a cigarette. He had been keeping an eye on Sophie. She very rarely left the house- until tonight. It was very questionable what he had seen and heard of her life, but she had practically set this up for them. Officer's Dennis and Anthony had agreed to follow her for him and so far so good.
They adorned suits for the evening so as to not draw attention. Police officers always drew attention. Adam was recognizable for his position within the city, so when she wondered into the Aloha Casino he stood by. They had informed him that she was associating with a few criminals in the Tiki Bar and he couldn't be seen associating with criminals himself in the public eye. At least, not often. He'd had the boys stay close by on the Strip and gave them strict orders to stay out of her sight.
He flick the cigarette towards the ground and stepped the amber out with his shoe. Right as he turned around, a young and thin blond women crashed into him and her sunglasses flew from her face. Sunglasses at night? He grabbed her arms, trying to steady her and then she looked up at him. It was Sophie herself and she was terrified. She was much more beautiful up close than he had anticipated, but she was bruised on her eye. What the hell happened? She gripped his arms and hung onto him while looking at him with desperation in her eyes.
"...Please, sir...I...There are men following me and ... and..."
As she spoke he drew his attention from her to the two figures standing from afar. Fucking idiots, he thought, giving them a hardened expression he hoped they could see. You weren't supposed to let her see you! They stared at him, concerned, and no doubt already pictured the lecture they would receive later for their incompetence. Or worse. "If I could ... Just a moment of your time and I'll be out of your hair, please...please..." He looked back into her bright blue deer in the headlight eyes and he uncharacteristically felt a sense of guilt for the poor girl .He hadn't meant to frighten her. "...I'll be in your debt...I'll do anything, just...please...If you could pretend to...to be a friend or...or someone who would notice if they were to ... to take me or ... or kill me or whatever it is they're planning..." She continued to stammer while the color drained further and further from her fair skin.
This would actually work out just fine. "I will handle this, don't worry," he told the girl simply, giving her arms a reassuring squeeze. Adam then gently pulled her behind him and he cast the two young officers a sinister glare. "I suggest you take your gang bang elsewhere, gentlemen, lest you want to go through me," he spoke to them loud enough to hear, but still head an intimidating tone. It was mostly for show, but he still wanted the two goons to know he was not pleased with their performance. "You have no business with this girl." They stood for a moment and then turned to leave. They would speak later. He waited until they were out of sight to turn back to Sophie.
"It's all right, you are safe," he reassured her with a soft spoken tone to calm her and took her arms in his hands again. "What is a beautiful women such as yourself doing in all this trouble?" Adam asked her with a friendly smile. He was referring to the situation that had just occurred and her injured eye. Remembering Sophie's sunglasses, he picked them up and delicately handed them to her. "I am Adam," he introduced himself pleasantly. "You should be more careful, Miss..." He almost said her name, but that would be strange and suspicious. He would let her tell him.

Baby, I'm not a bad girl - I just got a man who makes me do bad, bad things Sophie was a creature of habit. She was a child born and raised in captivity. The girl had thought she'd always wanted adventure and to see the world in all its loveliness. But when she was presented with the ugly side, with something that could hurt her - she had no idea how to react. She was terrified and had no knowledge on how to protect herself from anything. When she experienced something different and threatening - she felt nothing but fear and panic. Already she longed for the safety of her room. She wanted her blanket, her pillows, her nightgown. She wanted four walls around her to keep her safe. She desperately wanted to be back in her tower where men like this could never reach her. Why had she even left in the first place? It was why she reached out to the stranger. What choice did she have? Surely he would be better equipped to deal with this than she was. Maybe he would take pity on her and help. Maybe he was a kind man. He would walk her home safely, wouldn't he? Yes, she looked up into his eyes and could see that kindness in him. I will handle this, don't worry,She seemed to melt into him when he said that, her fear dissolving into gratitude. When he pulled her behind him, she clung to the back of his shirt, terrifed at the thought of losing him in a fight or fright. I suggest you take your gang bang elsewhere, gentlemen, lest you want to go through meWhat a hero! A champion! She looked up at him in wonder, thinking of all the books she had read when she was a child. This was what a hero truly looked like. A gentleman, truly. So brave and honest and true - and chivalrous too. You have no business with this girlAnd just like that - they disbursed. The girl was elated, and all the fear in her was seemingly gone. She even laughed for a moment, releasing all the tension within her in a cascading bubbly giggle that spilled from her lips. It was full of relief as he turned to face her. Without a moment's hesitation, she wrapped her arms tight around his neck and pressed her lips to his cheek. It's all right, you are safeHe took her arms again and she let him, looking up at him in adoration. "All thanks to you, sir..." her voice still shook a little, but her knees weren't as weak as they had been previously. What is a beautiful women such as yourself doing in all this trouble?Ever a sucker for compliments (the girl was like a greedy child with them), she blushed and ducked her head coyly. Before she could answer, he picked up her sunglasses, and she became a little more shy as she took them from him. There was no point wearing them now, even though she covered her eye, clearly embarrassed that he had seen. "...I am just...clumsy..." she stammered shakily, her brother's words coming out of her mouth. He'd made her tell everybody that - even Roxie. I am AdamHer eyes flickered up to meet his, now putting a name to the handsome features of his face. You should be more careful, Miss..."Sophie." she blurted out. No last name. No, that was too dangerous. "You can...You can call me Sophie. It's the least I owe you for helping me like that..." she looked up at him with that same warmth and almost child-like adoration. "You were very brave, Adam...Thank you..."

we are the keepers of their destiny Is it any wonder why princes and kings are clowns that caper in their sawdust rings? She was almost like a lost puppy, this women. It was very clear that she had little experience dealing with the more unpleasant parts of the open world, but he didn't blame her for being scared. His buffoons had, after all, made her a victim. Sophie's hands clutched onto the back of his shirt with a delicate innocence, as he shooed the young officers off. Adam had put on quite the heroic performance for her, hadn't he? When she had brought herself from her hiding place behind him and locked her gaze with his, she then hugged him. It was an unexpected gesture, to say the least, but he embraced her in return and she then gifted him with a feathery peck on his tanned cheek.
As he comforted her with a further embrace of her arms, Sophie looked at him with immense gratitude. The more he looked at her, the more he could not help but think that she looked like a princess from a fairytale. Perhaps her world was very much like that of Rapunzel. Her hair was golden blond, long, and she had skin fair that glowed, instead of possessing redness. Even through the blackened bruise on her eye, she twinkled. He hadn't noticed this before- the fear practically sucked the glow out of her just a moment ago.
"All thanks to you, sir..." Her voice trembled and he could smell a hint of alcohol on her, but she was spirited again.
When he coyly treated her with a compliment, she ate it up with a bashful blush. It added a whole other glow to her features and he would kick himself later for showering her with such admiration so soon like this. But she drew what little passion he held out of him so easily. Miss Sophie was certainly a princess of her own kind and he began to understand Scott's infatuation with the gal.
"...I am just...clumsy..." she answered him while when he inquired about her wound. Adam had certainly heard that one before in his years on the force and it didn't fly over his head one bit. Not that much did, but he would act like so for her sake. Especially when she was now covering her eye in obvious embarrassment. "You should watch your steps more carefully. Vegas' sidewalks are full of booby traps," he told her, lightly teasing, then cast her another reassuring smile.
She jumped quickly at the opportunity to tell him her name, "Sophie." He was somewhat surprised that she answered him honestly, but of course she didn't slip her last name. Luckily, he already knew this piece of crucial information. "You can...You can call me Sophie. It's the least I owe you for helping me like that..." Though, she had given it away so naively that her namesake was something to hide. Regardless, he took her right hand in his and planted a kiss upon on her soft skin. "Very lovely to meet you, Sophie. Your name speaks for your beauty." He charmed her and released her hand gracefully. The true admiration that radiated from her baby-blues as she looked up into his darkly glazed hazel eyes made him hold back a frown in guilt. He wanted to tell her his standing as the Chief of Police, but for now he needed her to trust him.
"You were very brave, Adam...Thank you..."
"No need to thank me, Sophie," he replied, giving her a nod. "It is only what's right." He then held out his arm to her as an invitation. "Please, let me walk you home. I'm sure this incident has driven your trust for the Vegas nightlife into a rut. It is the least I could do to help you any further."

Baby, I'm not a bad girl - I just got a man who makes me do bad, bad things Sophie was a charming girl. She always had been. Her father had said that when she was born, all the nurses instantly fell in love with her - even the doctors remarked on what a perfect little girl she was. It was why Harvey was so used to keeping Sophie isolated. Even when they were still living on the farm he had kept her isolated. From visitors or neighbors or anyone who thought they could come near Harvey's precious sister. Her charm and beauty was seen as a burden to those who loved her. They had to keep her away from people that sought to take that from her. Somewhere along the line Harvey had taken that to heart - and he no longer believed Sophie had any right to free will. He saw her as a possession. Anytime she had given her an ounce of freedom to do as she pleased, she had gotten herself into trouble. He couldn't allow her to make her own decisions anymore. It only got her into trouble he was afraid, one day, he might not be able to get her out of. And Sophie felt the guilt now. Her brother was only trying to protect her. It was all he had ever been trying to do, right? And now she was lying to him and betraying him. What kind of sister was she? She was awful. She didn't deserve her brother's love. Any love. She didn't know what to do with it, she only knew how to get into trouble... You should watch your steps more carefully. Vegas' sidewalks are full of booby trapsSophie's wide eyes searched his for meaning. What was he talking about? What did he mean by that? Paranoid for a moment, she relaxed only when he cast her a reassuring smile. Feeling silly, she ducked her head and nodded quickly, her cheeks reddening further. But Adam wasn't done with his charming. He took her hand in his and she watched curiously, wondering just what he was doing. But she trusted him. He'd just saved her life. And when he kissed her hand, she seemed to come to life once more, her toes wriggling with joy as she coyly worried her bottom lip between her teeth. He was a proper gentleman. They just didn't make them like that anymore. Sophie had always preferred older men. They just...treated her better. Even amongst Harvey's men there was a generational difference. Except for certain men - the one who terrorized her, Harvey's right hand man. He was what nightmares were made of. All thoughts of him, however, were banished when Adam spoke next. Very lovely to meet you, Sophie. Your name speaks for your beautyA coy giggle escaped her lips as he returned her hand and she used it to brush her hair out of her face. "Oh please, you are making me blush, Adam." she giggled, pressing the back of her hand to co her cheek to try and cool down her flushed skin. No need to thank me, Sophie. It is only what's right. Please, let me walk you home. I'm sure this incident has driven your trust for the Vegas nightlife into a rut. It is hte least I could do to help you any further.Sophie looked at his outstretched arm and felt a surge of excitement rush through her. Warmly smiling up at him, she slipped her arm through his and held his forearm gently. She stepped in line with him and looked up at him quietly for a moment. "...You are a true gentleman, Adam." she thanked him sincerely, beginning to lead him towards her home. "They just don't make men like you anymore. And it is a tragedy, really." she admitted, making conversation as she looked around curiously. They were heading off the strip now, into suburbia. "I don't live too far. I would hate to keep you from your plans..." she added, giving his arm a gentle squeeze. "So tell me Adam, what do you do? I mean your day job. Like...how Superman must be Clark Kent sometimes." she giggled, grinning up at him. Sophie was a sweet girl, with simple interests.
